You don’t need Odoo’s VoIP app to call from Odoo with a softphone. Odoo already puts a small Call link (a tel: link) next to each phone number in a form, and a browser extension can add a button that sends tel:, callto: or sip: to the softphone on your computer. Odoo’s VoIP app is the better fit if you want calls inside the browser, but on One App Free, adding VoIP next to CRM means upgrading, and VoIP also needs a provider that supports WebRTC.
| What you need | What it costs you | Good fit when | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Odoo’s VoIP app | The Standard or Custom plan (all apps), and a VoIP provider with a SIP server over websocket and WebRTC. Odoo names OnSIP and Axivox as verified | Your Odoo plan plus the provider’s subscription | You want to make and take calls inside Odoo, and your provider works with WebRTC |
| Odoo’s own Call link | A softphone or app on your computer that opens tel: links | Nothing extra | Your softphone listens to tel: and you only call from contact or lead forms |
| CallerPlugins softphone button | Chrome and CallerPlugins for Odoo, on yourcompany.odoo.com | Your own call costs. The buttons are free for 10 uses per tool per month, or 100 for your team with a confirmed company email | You are on One App Free, your softphone needs callto: or sip:, or you want to call from list views too |
Sources, checked 28 October 2026: Odoo 18.0 documentation: VoIP (providers and requirements) · Odoo pricing: One App Free, Standard, Custom · Odoo 20.0 documentation: Activities · 3CX forum: callto: no longer working in the V20 Windows app
Start by adding CallerPlugins for Odoo to Chrome and confirming your work email. Then pick the setup that matches the softphone and plan you have.

In a contact or lead form, Odoo shows a small Call button next to the phone number when you hover over it. It is a tel: link, so your computer decides which app opens it. Odoo forms are always editable, so clicking the number itself only puts the cursor in the field.
Good when your softphone wants a link type other than tel:, when tel: already goes to another app, or when you want to call straight from a list of contacts or leads.
More about the link types (tel:, callto:, sip:) is on the softphone page; the Teams settings are on the Microsoft Teams page.
The hidden tel: Call link in Odoo forms, and where the CallerPlugins buttons go in forms and lists, come from the real Odoo 20 demo (demo.odoo.com), read on 14 October 2026. The link each setting sends comes from the extension’s code. The VoIP requirements, the activity steps and the plan contents come from Odoo’s documentation and pricing page, and the 3CX fact from a 3CX staff answer in its forum, checked on the dates in the sources list. Odoo’s 20.0 documentation has no VoIP page we could read, so the VoIP requirements come from the 18.0 page. We have not tested every softphone, and menu names in Windows and Odoo can change.
Add CallerPlugins for Odoo to Chrome — free
Free: 10 uses per tool per month, or 100 for your team with a confirmed company email · Pro from €4.99 per user per tool · See pricing
On One App Free you get one app. If that app is CRM, adding VoIP means moving to Standard or Custom, which include all apps. It also needs a VoIP provider that offers a SIP server over websocket with WebRTC; Odoo lists OnSIP and Axivox as verified (checked 28 October 2026).
Yes, outside Odoo. Let the softphone open tel: links in Windows, or use the CallerPlugins button with the link type it takes. The call runs in the softphone, not in the Odoo tab. Odoo’s VoIP app itself connects to the provider through WebRTC, not to a softphone on your computer.
Odoo’s own Call link is part of the phone field, so your Windows tel: setting applies there too. The CallerPlugins extension only runs on *.odoo.com (Odoo Online and Odoo.sh) for now; self-hosted Odoo is on the roadmap.
Odoo’s Call link and your Windows settings are free. The CallerPlugins buttons are free for 10 uses per tool per month, or 100 for your team once you confirm a company email. Pro costs €4.99 per user per tool a month (excl. VAT), or less billed yearly. Your calls are billed by your own VoIP provider.
